About us
MortgageDex is a guide to mortgage brokers and advisers in UK cities, sorted by the kind of mortgage, so you can compare firms before you ring.
Looking for a mortgage broker usually starts with a deadline. An offer has been accepted on a flat, a fixed rate is about to end, or a lender keeps questioning self-employed income. MortgageDex gathers the mortgage brokers and advisers of UK cities and sorts them by the type of mortgage they handle, so you can compare firms that know your situation before you pick up the phone.
What you will find
A list for each city and, where enough firms qualify, lists for first-time buyers, the self-employed, people with a poor credit history, buy to let and equity release. Every listing shows what the firm says it does, its address, its opening hours and how to get in touch. Many brokers work by phone or video call, so check how the firm prefers to deal with clients.
What we do not do
We are not a broker, an adviser or a lender. We do not give financial advice, arrange mortgages, take applications or tell you which firm to use. We do not book appointments and we do not charge you anything. Any advice and any fee are a matter between you and the firm you choose. We do not check each firm’s authorisation ourselves, so please do that yourself. Your home may be repossessed if you do not keep up repayments on your mortgage.
Check the firm on the FCA register
Advising on a residential mortgage is a regulated activity in the UK. A firm must be authorised by the Financial Conduct Authority, or act as an appointed representative of a firm that is. Search for it on the Financial Services Register at register.fca.org.uk. The entry shows its firm reference number, its status and what it is permitted to do. If you cannot find the firm, or the details do not match what it told you, ask why before you share any documents.
